Chinese Crawler Excavators gaining Ground in Europe

BEDBURG/GERMANY, August 20, 2014 - 2011 saw the re-launch of a long-term commitment of the Chinese construction machine giant Sany in Europe. So much for the plan. A first attempt about 10 years ago did not produce the desired breakthrough, particularly in the construction machinery field. Today it is very different types of machines and resources with which Sany is making its way on to the European market.

Today the Sany Group is one of the world's ten largest manufacturers of construction equipment. In China, where at peak times up to 200,000 crawler excavators are sold per year, the company is one of the top exporters and has achieved the highest market share in China with more than 10% in recent years. Then we often leave our well-known competitors far behind.

The machines have already proven themselves in many demanding markets outside of Asia. Every machine which is supplied to Europe is fully CE compliant and meets the local requirements of a modern working tool. The European foundation was laid by the Sany management in 2011 with the start of the production of concrete pumps in Bedburg near Cologne. Last year the company then stopped the manufacture of pumps there, which were replaced by reach stackers.

From 2013 to today, port handling machines have rolled uninterruptedly out of the 10,000 square meter production hall to their new owners in Belgium, Germany, Portugal, Italy and Russia. More new orders from Sweden and the UK have contributed to a perfect entry to the European market.

Sales, spare parts and service are managed in Bedburg, so that Sany Germany can guarantee rapid assistance and short downtimes. Today the business location of Germany is the hub for the development, sale and production of the products in Europe. The team comes from different European countries and each employee has a large amount of experience in his or her specialist field. However, the process of team building has not yet been completed: Sany Germany is still seeking qualified employees for the fields of administration, service and research and development. "Only in this way - by looking forward and expanding - can we reach our goal of becoming a true global player. The investment in Sany Germany is one of many worldwide which are intended to expand production capacities. The creation of new centres for research and development ensures that the requirements of the local markets are satisfied," explains Bart Decroos, the company’s CEO. The philosophy behind it is simple: concentration on the core competencies of development and production. Sales and service are to be taken over by reliable partners, i.e. regional dealers with the appropriate know-how.

The model range for Europe is the result of a collaboration between German, American and Chinese engineers. Existing and proven designs have been modified so that they meet customer needs and the health and safety requirements in Europe.
